MAINE REAL ESTATE SALES INCREASE BY DOUBLE DIGITS

SOUTH PORTLAND (September 21, 2011) — Sales of Maine’s single-family existing homes increased 14.74 percent during the month of August 2011 compared with August 2011, according to the Maine Real Estate Information System, Inc. (MREIS). Home prices decreased 2.8 percent over the same 12 months to a statewide median sales price (MSP) of $165,000. The MSP indicates that half of the homes were sold for more and half sold for less.The National Association of Realtors (NAR) reports a 20.2 percent increase in August home sales, nationwide. The national MSP declined 5.4 percent to $168,400. Sales in the regional Northeast increased 10 percent and the regional MSP decreased 5.1 percent to $244,100.

Maine Home Sales Decline in April

SOUTH PORTLAND (May 19, 2011) — Maine single-family home sales and median sales prices declined in April, according to statistics released today by the Maine Real Estate Information System, Inc. (MREIS). Realtors sold 236 fewer homes last month compared to one year ago, a 23.74 percent decrease. Maine’s median sales price (MSP) dipped 2.84% to $160,750 when compared with $165,450 in April 2010. The MSP indicates that half of the homes were sold for more and half sold for less.The National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported a 12.6 percent drop in national sales comparing April 2011 to April 2010. The national MSP of $163,200 reflects a decrease of 5.4 percent in that same time period. Home sales in the regional Northeast were down 32.1 percent and the regional MSP declined 7.3 percent to $225,400.

MAINE MEDIAN HOME SALES PRICES INCREASES IN FEBRUARY

SOUTH PORTLAND (March 21, 2011) — Statistics released by the Maine Real Estate Information System, Inc. (MREIS) indicate the median sales price (MSP) of a single-family home in Maine rose 0.92 percent in February 2011 to $159,450 compared with February 2010. The MSP indicates that half of the homes were sold for more and half sold for less. In addition, 482 homes sold in February 2011, reflecting a sales decrease of 2.43 percent compared to February 2010.

In that same time period, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) reports a 2.7 percent decrease for national sales of single-family existing homes and a national Median Sales Price of $157,000 – a decline of 4.2 percent. Regionally, sales in the Northeast decreased 8.3 percent in February; the regional MSP of $230,200 represents a 9.5 percent decrease.

MAINE HOME SALES UP 10.74% IN JANUARY

SOUTH PORTLAND (February 23, 2011) — Sales of single-family existing homes in Maine increased during January. According to the Maine Real Estate Information System, Inc. (MREIS), Realtors sold 536 homes last month, an increase of 10.74 percent when compared with January 2010. The median sales price (MSP) for those homes remained unchanged at $160,000 in that same time period. The MSP indicates that half of the homes were sold for more and half sold for less.

Nationally, sales rose 4.9 percent in the past 12 months. According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), the national MSP for existing single-family homes dipped 2.7 percent to $159,400 in January. In the regional Northeast, NAR reported a 1.2 percent decrease in sales. The regional MSP of $236,500 represents a 4 percent decline.
